2012 ROCK OF AGES Movie
Storyline
A small-town girl arrives in Hollywood at the height of the 1980s rock-music scene.
This movie preview brings you the latest on Rock of Ages, which brings the thunder to filmed musicals. When I say ‘brings the thunder,’ I don’t really know what I mean. I’ve been saying it a lot lately. The film follows a couple who fall in love at a Sunset Strip rock club but are torn apart by their rock n’ roll lifestyle.Rock of Ages is based on a book and adapted play by Chris D’Arienzo. The music of the film is taken from popular 80′s music, with bands such as Journey, Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, and REO Speedwagon. Man, I can NOT wait to get the soundtrack.
And burn it.
I grew up during the age of Nirvana, which proved that all that crap in the 80′s was terrible. Pffh. Wanted: Dead or Alive? More like Wanted: Dead.
That sounded better in my head.
Rock of Ages Movie
The film is directed by Adam Shankman and is starring Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Tom Cruise, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The Rock of Ages movie will be likely be released in theaters in 2012.Director Adam Shankman (who brought us Hairspray) is working on a movie adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages for Warner Bros. He will direct and choreograph the a rock-themed 80s love story. It's confirmed that Actor Tom Cruise is on board the project: he will play Jaxx, who sings Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" in the original theater musical. The cast is also likely to include Mary J. Blige, Gwyneth Paltrow, Russell Brand, and Alec Baldwin. The film is listed by IMDb for a release in 2012.
For those who don't know, Rock of Ages is a musical built around classic rock hits from the 1980s, especially from the famous glam metal bands of the decade. The musical features songs from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison and Asia, among other well-known rock bands. Watch the video below to get a better idea of the whole thing:
Rock of Ages is being directed by Adam Shankman, who directed Bedtime Stories, Hairspray, and The Wedding Planner. I guess it’s good that he directed Hairspray, since that was another musical, but the other work does not inspire confidence. I don’t know if Hairspray inspires confidence, since I didn’t see it, but I assume people who like musicals about cross dressing loved it.
Plot:
"Rock of Ages centers on two people who meet at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, fall in love and try to stay together amid '80s rock songs."The original musical does rock like hell, but I'm definitely impatient to see the Rock of Ages movie, especially because Tom Cruise got a role. I bet the film will be even greater than the musical.
Anyway, more information about the Rock of Ages movie soon!
