2012 The Fighter 2 Movie
The Fighter 2 Movie
First revealed last March, Mark Wahlberg is interested in making a sequel to his 2010 hit The Fighter. Now, in a clip from the forthcoming Spike TV Guys Choice Awards (airing this Friday, June 10th), the actor reiterates that the project is moving forward."We left out the Aturo Gatti fights for a reason," Wahlberg announced, following the film's win for "Guy Movie of the Year," "Because that's for 'Fighter 2.' We're not going to do 'Fighter' 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, but we're gonna do 2. We're gonna do the Ward/Gatti trilogy."
In real life, Mickey Ward fought Arturo Gatti in three major fights beginning in 2002.
The Fighter swept the 2010 Supporting Actor nominations, landing statues for both Christian Bale and Melissa Leo. It is unknown at this stage who else might return from the original film, but, as you can see in the video below, Wahlberg is joined on stage by director David O. Russell. His involvement is likely at least as a producer.
We may expect a Fighter 2 movie. Actor Mark Wahlberg is indeed pushing for a sequel to the Fighter. He's really committed to the project: the actor is working out and keeping fit to reprise his role as the boxer Mickey Ward as soon as possible. A few words from Mark Wahlberg about why he's interested in doing a Fighter 2 movie.
"I weigh about 185. But it's still solid. Ready to throw down. I got bit by the bug, and now I'm trying to plant the idea in everyone's head that we should do — not five or six Fighters like Rocky — but one more because the big thing that Micky Ward was famous for was his three epic battles with Arturo Gatti. So we're talking about possibly taking one more run at it."

Here's the movie trailer of the first Fighter movie:
So as I sit here and read the news of Mark Wahlberg once again saying that he wants to do a The Fighter 2. He goes on to talk about how they have no plans to take this story and make it into a full blown Hollywood franchise by having a part 4, 5, 6 or 7; but a part 2 is something they really want to do.
Apparently, because boxing isn’t a sport that I’m that well versed in, Micky Ward, after becoming the welterweight title holder , eventually goes on to fight through a trilogy of bouts with the famous Arturro Gatti.
Now I’m not going to say that there isn’t a story to be told there, I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s always a story to be told and even the most mundane films can be very interesting if done correctly. However, when I look back at The Fighter even more than the story of Ward becoming the success I felt the real important aspect of it all was how he got there and how he eventually discovered how his family was what was holding him back. The drama of how the family, Alice (Melissa Leo), Dicky (Christian Bale) and his infinite amount of sisters were what was continually what was stopping him from being who he ended up becoming the moment he removed them from the equation.
The point of a sequel is to “one up” the original. How can taking all the family drama out of the movie and actually making it into a stereotypical sports movie where a training montage is what gets us to the climactic end battle be a good move for this story? As much as I have a soft spot for the underdog sports movie, I feel that this is a film that’s probably best untouched. Why go digging where there’s not much more to mine. Are we going to start joking about how Dicky isn’t on drugs anymore? I’m sure that they won’t be able to land Bale or Leo back at this point and it’s Wahlberg looking for another shot at the Oscar, and he won’t get it this time either.
