I can't help to be a little excited to to a sequel to Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. As terrible as the the script was for the first film I still had a lot of fun watching all these action stars kicking ass and blowing shit up.

The Expendables 2 is gearing up for production, and has been given the release date of August 17th 2012. Nu Image / Millennium Films and Lionsgate are producing the film and they've released a full detailed plot synopsis for the film up at The Cannes Film Festival, and it does contain *spoilers*.

Stallone did not write the script, and he will not direct the film, but he will be back to reprise his role as Barney. The screenplay is being written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman, a director for the film has yet to be announced.

Check out the plot synopsis below! I also just want to point out that for some reason word Villain is spelled Vilain throughout the whole document. You would think a studio would make sure all the spelling was right before they released something like this.

Plot Synopsis:

“The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They’re not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.”

The Expendables 2 movie is scheduled for a release on August 17, 2012.
The film will hit theaters on August 17, 2012. I guess they will start to shoot this Summer then.

Let’s hope Bruce Willis will really sign up for the Expendables 2!
Haven't seen the film yet so I don't want to speculate about the plot of The Expendables 2. But I guess that in the sequel we'll follow the next adventures of the surviving members of the Expendables team: the core members (Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li) will probably show up again.

Unless they fasttrack the development of The Expendables 2, the sequel will most likely be released in 2012.

Update - A few plot details of the Expendables:

We already knew that Sylvester Stallone was considering a movie sequel to the Expendables even before the film was released. Well, now that the Expendables movie is performing quite well in theaters, it sounds like it’s a done deal. He’s already revealing a few details about the Expendables 2:

The first opus of The Expendables was a hell of a movie, so you can sign me up for the Expendables 2!
The first Expendables movie hasn't been released yet, but it's been garnering some well-deserved positive buzz from early test footage and trailers. So it goes without saying that they're considering a movie franchise. Producer Avi Lerner was already hinting at a movie sequel to the Expendables back in 2009:
"Definitely. We already have got some ideas about Expendables No. 2, No. 3. Definitely, it’s a franchise movie."

Sounds like the stakes will be very high in the sequel to the Expendables! I wonder what's threatening humanity... A virus? A super bomb?
