Storyline of Prince of Persia 2:
When he opened the Hourglass at the start of Sands of Time, the Prince inadvertently set into motion events, which would reach far beyond his adventure at the Sultan's palace. He was supposed to die... but as we all know, not only did The Prince survive the opening of the Hourglass, he managed to reseal the sands and prevent the disaster from ever occurring. He had changed his fate. This was a terrific thing for the people of his kingdom, but a virtual death sentence for the Prince.
Fate doesn't like to be pushed around. And when an individual, through some incredible act of bravery, heroism, or luck, manages to avoid his or her fate, a Dahaka is spawned.
The Dahaka's job is simple: restore things to the way they should have been. And since The Prince "should have" died in the Sultan's palace, it's the Dahaka's job to make that happen. The Dahaka is really good at its job. So good, in fact, that in all of recorded history, there is no mention of an individual managing to escape its grasp.
And so ever since The Prince defeated the Vizier and resealed the Sands of Time, he's had a new enemy to deal with - one which he cannot seem to harm.
Initially, The Prince sought training - with skilled warriors - and later, on the field of battle. Driven by a desire to be rid of this creature he threw himself into the fray with little concern for his own personal safety. If he was to have any chance of killing this thing, he'd have to become a master swordsman. The enemies he fought and faced seemed insignificant compared to this beast. And when he wasn't fighting, The Prince was avoiding The Dahaka - by travelling to the furthest corners of the known world. It was only a matter of days - sometimes mere hours - before The Dahaka would find its way to our hero's location, forcing him to move once more.
People ignorant of The Prince's true situation just assumed he'd gone mad. He raced about the world, rarely sleeping, always fighting. But the truth of the matter is he's up against an apparently invincible creature which is never more than a few steps behind him. And it's driving him him mad...
The first Prince of Persia movie is going to be released in a few days. UbiSoft and Disney haven't announced any movie sequel yet. But since the first film is obviously going to be a blockbuster we may already consider Prince of Persia 2 as a done deal.
There is no doubt that Jake Gyllenhaal would come reprise his role as Prince Dastan. And I guess Director Mike Newell, unless he's busy with some other project, would be glad to helm the movie sequel to Prince of Persia.
Now what would be the plot of Prince of Persia 2? Well, UbiSoft will release a game sequel to the Sands of Time game in May 2010, it's titled The Forgotten Sands.
Plot of Prince of Persia 2 The Forgotten Sands:
"Visiting his brother’s kingdom following his adventure in Azad, the Prince finds the royal palace under siege from a mighty army bent on its destruction. When the decision is made to use the ancient power of the Sand in a desperate gamble to save the kingdom from total annihilation, the Prince will embark on an epic adventure in which he will learn to bear the mantle of true leadership, and discover that great power often comes with great responsibility."
So Prince of Persia 2 could be based on this game. But we're just speculating, the movie sequel could go in a different direction:
"I don't think the movie and the game need to come back together into lockstep."
_Jordan Mechner
Anyway I'm impatient to watch the first film and will pray for the movie Prince of Persia 2 to be greenlit as soon as possible!

Plot of Prince of Persia II:
Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame begins as the Prince enters the royal courts of the palace. Before he enters, however, his appearance turns back into that of a beggar. Nobody recognizes him, and when he attempts to speak with the Princess, a man who shares his appearance (apparently Jaffar, magically disguised) emerges from the shadows, ordering him to be thrown out. With guards pursuing him, the Prince jumps through a window and flees the city by way of merchant ship. The ship is struck by lightning, cast by Jaffar, just as a mysterious woman appears in the barge and asks the Prince to find her. He regains consciousness, and finds himself on the shore of a foreign island.
As the Prince fights his way back to Persia, he finds many useful tools in his quest against Jaffar. At one point the Prince's mother,[1] revealed to be the mysterious woman on the ship, shows herself, and explains about her husband's death, and her plight to abandon the Prince so that he might live. In a temple, the Prince finds that he can separate from his body, transforming into the shadow that Jaffar's magic mirror created in the events of Prince of Persia. The Prince uses this motive to steal the sacred flame of the temple, and then travels back to Persia. Here he immediately encounters Jaffar, who flees. The Prince transforms into the shadow bearing the blue flame once again, and casts fire at Jaffar, defeating him. The Princess awakens from the spell Jaffar set upon her, and the Prince orders the former Vizier's ashes be scattered. As the Prince and Princess ride into the distance, however, it is revealed that an old woman is watching them through a crystal ball.
