2012 Hancock 2 Movie

The movie Hancock wasn't the critics' favorite movie of Year 2008, but the public did appreciate Will Smith as a superhero, the film made some good cash making : box office earnings reached indeed $228 million which is quite a feat.No wonder then that a sequel to Hancock is being planned, the news filtered online via JobLo:
"[...]there were a lot of unexplored characters in the HANCOCK universe that would be ripe for a sequel."
-Will Smith
There is indeed a lot to explore further with Hancock, like where those god-like superheroes come from: are they fallen angels or aliens from outer space? To develop this plot they could either make a Hancock prequel going back to more than 3000 years ago, or they could go on with a Hancock sequel where a long time Nemesis, a villain, would come to Earth to pursue Hancock, giving an excuse for flashbacks.
Hnacock 2 is still in limbo as of now though: nothing official, it's just Will Smith saying that he would be interested by a movie sequel to Hancock.
So still a few years before Hancock 2, if lucky, maybe in 2011 or 2012?
Director Peter Berg who was in charge of the first Hancock movie has been talking about the possible movie sequel to Hancock:
“There might be another god out there. Might be another one.
[...]
They like to fast-track it, but Will’s busy, I’m pretty busy. We’re excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don’t feel a burning imperative to go right back into it.”
Director Peter Berg
This sounds like a real sequel, but I guess there will be a few flashbacks showing us the origins of those mighty beings, and how they came to Earth.
I enjoyed watching Hancock. Some critics may have been harsh on this film, but I still think that Will Smith’s performance was great. So I would be glad to see the release of a Hancock 2 movie in a not too distant future.
HANCOCK 2 – HANCOCK SEQUEL
Even if the critics bashed Will Smith’s Hancock I did appreciate the movie, and I’m not alone: box office earnings at $228 million are a proof. So I am very glad to hear via JobLo that Will Smith is considering a sequel to Hancock.
Will Smith precises his interest in Hancock 2 saying that “there were a lot of unexplored characters in the HANCOCK universe that would be ripe for a sequel”. And I can but agree: we don’t really know where those God-like heroes come from. There is still room for developing a new story around Hancock.
But the movie Hancock 2 is not for tomorrow: Will Smith recognizes that a few years should elapse before the release of Hancok 2.
I’ll be there for Hancock II!
I haven't seen Hancock yet, but the word is that it's not so good. Well there's already talk of another one, albeit on strong caveats about how much the original makes.
What's more interesting is that the rumour carries word that Will Smith doesn't like the finished film and that he'll only do a sequel under some very strict terms.
It seems as though it will make a lot of money though, for in America it's a very big weekend, and it's a very big release, Will Smith, 4th of July and action galore, who wouldn't want to see that. I certainly do, even if it is rubbish. Well that's what critics are saying, there's the usual mixed feelings, but the tendancy is that it's not such a strong film as it could have been.
However in this day and age studios are talking sequels often before a film has even made it's first ticket sale, and it looks like that's the case with Hancock. According to a source from Sony through Cinema Blend they're already lining it up.
Lining it up they may be, but the big rumour from the unnamed source is that Will Smith doesn't like the film and won't do a sequel unless it forgets the first and completely rework the story. The added clause there is that Smith himself allegedly wants control over the sequel.
In this day and age it's not totally infeasible to think of Sony just dropping Will Smith and creating a second Hancock story totally forgetting the first even in leading actor, but considering the draw of that man's name I doubt we'll see that. Unless Hancock totally bombs at the box office I can see a sequel coming and Smith getting exactly what he want's for the sequel, and from accounts that may be a good thing.
Have you seen the film and do you think that it should see a sequel? If so, should it be a complete rework, and is there such a big deal if Will Smith has control over it?
